WINDIR Is Now History
September 17, 2004Norwegian black metallers WINDIR have posted the following message on their official web site:
"The farewell concert at Rockefeller in Oslo on] September 3rd, was a tremendous sucsess. There were about 1200 people at the concert, and WINDIR, with [late frontman] Valfar's brother Vegard Bakken as a special guest, performed a great show.
"WINDIR would like to thank those who could make it to Oslo this special evening. Also the band would like to thank MINDGRINDER, FINNTROLL and ENSLAVED for honouring Valfar's memory with great live performances!
"WINDIR is now history. Those who have supported us, you know who you are, we thank you! To everyone else: 'RAIS TI HELVETE ADLE I HOP!!!!!'"
WINDIR performed the show as a tribute to their late singer Terje "Valfar" Bakken, who tragically passed away in January. A photo from the gig can be viewed at this location.
WINDIR's final CD, a two-disc set entitled "Valfar, ein Windir", was released earlier this month through Tabu Recordings. The first CD includes new material, unreleased material, tribute songs from other bands and live tracks, while the second CD is a compilation of the music made by Valfar. It will include tracks spanning the group's entire careeer — from the first demo, "Sognariket", to the last album, "Likferd". All proceeds from this CD will go directly to Valfar's family.
